PROCEDURE TEXT

1. Definition

  a type of writing that provides step-by-step   instructions on how to make or do something.

2. Generic structure

  The generic structure of a procedure text is made up of three parts: 

 

Goal

The purpose of the text, which is usually stated in the title. For example, the title of a procedure text on how to make mango juice would be "How to make a mango juice". 

 

Materials or ingredients

A list of the tools, equipment, or other supplies needed to complete the task. 

 

Steps

A detailed, step-by-step guide on how to achieve the goal. Eac h step is usually written in a clear and concise manner, using imperative language (commands). 

 

Procedure texts are used to explain how to make, use, or do something with a sequence of steps. They are often introduced with the words "How to". 

3. Language feture

 

  Procedure texts use a variety of language features to explain how to do so mething, including:

Imperative sentences

These command forms tell someone to do something. They are often started with a verb, such as "mix", "stir", "boil", "add", "turn on", or "get".

Simple present tense

This tense makes the action seem immediate and relevant.

Connectives

These words or phrases link different parts of the text. Examples include "first", "second", "after that", "then", "finally", and "last".

Adverbs

These provide additional detail about how an action is to be performed. Examples include "in 5 minutes", "for an hour", "slowly", "fastly", "rapidly", and "powerfully". 

 

Procedure texts are often used to explain how to make or use something, or how to perform a specific task. They are considered to be one of the simplest types of text, but can still be difficult to organize. 

 4. Example

   How To make a fried rice

Ingredients:

2 cloves of Garlic

2 onions cut into small pieces

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

a plate of rice

some salt

Steps how to make it:

First, pound garlic and 2 pinches of salt.

Second, heat vegetable oil on a frying pan.

Third, put the pounded garlic, salt, and onions

into the hot vegetable oil. Fry them for a while.

Fourth, put one plate of rice. Fry and mix them for around 3 minutes.

Fifth, add two pinches of salt. Continue frying until the rice is hot enough.

Finally, put the fried rice on a plate. Serve with a sunny-side up.
